These days, our lives can get so jam packed that it can be hard to find time to relax and enjoy the lazy-day activities that our city has to offer. During the week we are robotic, going through the motions to get our jobs done and keep our lives organized. For most of us, by the time the weekend comes around, we can’t wait to just saunter home and chill-lax. So, where do we go if we want to take a break and get out of the house? Check out this list of five ways to be happily unproductive in Columbus.

1. Go to the Park

There are so many different parks around Columbus that are worthy of a good walk, run or ride. Franklin County has over 220 beautiful parks, so no matter which park you choose, you can’t go wrong. Whether you’re looking for just a nice, relaxing afternoon outside, or want to catch a festival or planned activity, the park is a great place to start.

2. Try a Local Brewery

The craft beer industry has come so far, and continues to evolve — especially right here in Columbus. C-Bus has become a popular location for local breweries when it comes to both flavor and taste. If you just want to kick back and relax, go try out one of the various local breweries and dabble in their crafty beer selection. Some local Columbus favorites include Seventh Son Brewing Co., Four String Brewing Co., and Columbus Brewing Company.

3. See a Film

There are a number of great places to catch a movie around Columbus — and they range from distinguished old movie theaters to more luxury venues like the AMC theatres located in Dublin and Easton Town Center that offer comfortable lounge chair seating with food and beverage options. If you’re in the mood to switch up your viewing experience, you might even try an outdoor movie on the lawn during the summer months at places like The Wexner Center or Columbus Commons. So, why not kick back, relax, and see a movie with a beer in hand? You can’t beat it.

If you’re into art and enjoy ‘hopping’ around Downtown to different stores, then you will love Gallery Hop. Gallery Hop takes place the first Saturday of every month in the Short North Arts District in Downtown Columbus. On this Saturday, thousands of visitors come down to High Street to visit shops, boutiques, restaurants and galleries. With an array of new gallery exhibitions, food, and special events, there’s definitely something for everyone.

5. Enjoy Live Music

There are so many cool venues that offer local and national musicians the opportunity to play in front of Columbus fans. Whether its the bigger venues like the Schottenstein Center or the LC, or smaller venues such as Skully’s or Newport; you can’t go wrong. No matter how well known or not the artist may be, live music always makes for a fun afternoon or evening.

It’s always nice to take some ‘me’ time and get away from the stresses of your everyday life. Whether you choose to relax in any of the five ways I listed above or in a different way, just be sure to recharge your batteries and give yourself a break every now, and again.
